🍨 Melting Icecream made with masked height displacement maps. This is an animation which will be used as a background hence the slow editing. The model is made in Blender 3.0 in which I modeled and assigned material IDs. I then brought the model over to Substance Painter where I textured both the icecream flavors and the cone using procedural noise textures. I also created three different texture sets for the cone. Over in After Effects I made a simple "melting" BW animation on top of the cone's UV shells. This animated mask is what drives the height displacement in Blender and also determines which flavor of icecream to show on top. This was really fun to experiment with as I haven't seen anything similar before and there was lots of technical R&D to get this result. 😄

Wireframe of the model. You need a high poly model for the height map displacement to look smooth.
