"Tiedtke's Enchanted Arts & Crafts Shop" is my final assignment of the Substance Designer course at Visual Magic. We were tasked with creating three materials in Designer and then applying them to a scene of our choice. I wanted to make a cozy looking shop in the old city center. I started out making a list of the materials I needed to create with Designer and also made a rough blockout in Blender.
⠀
I made the materials in Designer with the techniques I've learned over the last few weeks - I spent most time on the green wood and the cobblestone street as those were the main focus of the scene. After all materials were done I modeled the scene in Blender and used normal BSDF shaders for the materials. After researching and learning the USD workflow I used the USD Stage in Unreal Engine and simply transferred the scene to UE5 without any extra work of setting up new materials or anything, only small tweaks.
⠀
I finished of by populating the scene even further with assets, decals and models from Quixel bridge and Sketchfab. Some decals I made myself in Photoshop. In DaVinci Resolve I did some grading and simple VFX work with dust and light overlays. Superfun project to work on!
